Based in Seattle, Washington, Timothy Shields is a writing, advertising, and marketing professional with more than eight years of experience working for such world-renowned brands as Barnes & Noble, Microsoft, Starbucks, Holland America Line, Regence BlueShield, and Nordstrom.
His life as a writer began September 29, 1991, when he first began keeping a journal. To this day he has compiled his reflections on life in more than 38 journals. As an undergrad at Loyola College in Baltimore, he received a Bachelor of Arts in Writing and Philosophy and several years later earned a screenwriting certificate from New York University’s School of Continuing Education.
He has written for various magazines and the The Seattle Times, as well as had an article written about him by Eric Lacitis in the October 16, 2001, edition of The Seattle Times entitled “Life’s An Open Book; a Journal of the 90’s”. As a result of this article, Dr. Henriette Anne Klauser, a best-selling author of many books on writing, reached out to him and interviewed him about his life as a journal writer. At the time, she was writing a book about the process of healing through writing. Only a few months prior, Tim had moved from New York City to Seattle after getting passed up for two jobs in the World Trade Center. Two months later he would lose several friends in the 2001 tragedy. The result of their new friendship was an entire chapter in her book With Pen In Hand (Da Capo Press, January 7, 2003) about Tim’s intimate connection to 9/11, which included excerpts of his journals.
Tim was also the writer and assistant producer of Gum In My Hair, an educational video on bullying seen in more than 3,400 schools across the country. It was favorably reviewed in the April 10, 2003, issue of Psychology Today.
